These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your use of Seren — the mobile app and this website, operated by Serendipity (“Seren,” “we,” “us”). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Seren.
Our Privacy Policyis part of these Terms by reference — read it too, especially if you’re deciding whether to sign up.
1. Who can use Seren
- You must be 18 years of age or older. Seren is not for minors.
- You must be able to form a binding contract under the laws of your country.
- You must not be someone barred from using Seren under applicable law, or previously banned from Seren for violating these Terms.
- One account per person. Creating a second account after a ban, or to evade a block, is itself a violation — see Section 7.
We ask for your date of birth at signup specifically to enforce this, and it is never displayed to other users — see the Privacy Policy.
2. What Seren is
Seren helps people who are mutually interested start a real, offline conversation — a match, then (once you’re both nearby) a proximity-gated chat meant to lead to meeting in person, not to be a place to live. We built it around a few product commitments worth stating here as plainly as they’re stated to our own team:
- We never ask for your email, phone number, or real name to create an account. We know you by your face and a screen name.
- Your exact location is never shown to another user — only a “nearby” signal, once you’ve matched and are both within range.
- Chat only unlocks once you’re near a match; it doesn’t replace meeting in person, and messages inside it are structured rather than an unbounded feed.
- We don’t build features designed to monetize rejection, insecurity, or compulsive use.
Seren today does not charge for any feature. If that changes, any paid feature will be described in the app before you’re asked to pay for it, and none of it will be one of the things listed above.
3. Your account
- Seren uses passkey authentication — tied to your device and synced through your platform’s credential manager (iCloud Keychain / Google Password Manager). You’re responsible for keeping your device secure.
- Your profile photos go through a liveness check at signup. This is how we confirm you’re a real person and not an impersonation of someone else — misrepresenting whose face is in your photos is a violation of these Terms.
- Your screen name must not be, or impersonate, a real name — yours or anyone else’s — and must not be obscene, harassing, or impersonate Seren or its staff.
4. Your content
You keep ownership of the photos, prompts, and messages you post on Seren. By posting them, you give us the license we need to store, display, and transmit them as part of operating the app — for example, showing your photos to people you might match with, or delivering a chat message to your match. We don’t use your content for anything beyond running the service, and we don’t sell it.
You agree not to post content that:
- Is someone else’s likeness without their consent, or is not actually you;
- Is sexually explicit, violent, or otherwise obscene;
- Harasses, threatens, or demeans another person;
- Advertises a business, service, or solicits money;
- Is false, misleading, or created to scam another user; or
- Violates any law or another person’s rights.
5. Meeting in person
Seren’s whole purpose is helping you meet someone in real life — and that means we can’t be there when you do. You are solely responsible for your own safety and conduct, online and off, when using Seren and when meeting anyone you connect with through it.
- We do not conduct criminal background checks on users, and we cannot guarantee the identity, intentions, or conduct of anyone you meet.
- Meet in public places, tell a friend where you’re going, and trust your judgment — the same care you’d take meeting anyone new.
- Seren is not responsible for the conduct of any user, in the app or in person, and is not liable for any dispute, injury, or loss arising from an in-person meeting arranged through the app.
6. Safety, reports, and blocks
You can report or block anyone on Seren, in-app. Reports and blocks are private — the person you report or block is never told who reported or blocked them. We review reports and take action consistent with these Terms, up to and including removing content or banning an account, at our discretion.
7. Prohibited conduct
In addition to the content rules in Section 4, you agree not to:
- Harass, stalk, threaten, or attempt to intimidate another user;
- Solicit money, gifts, or financial information from another user (a “scam” or “romance scam” pattern);
- Attempt to collect another user’s contact information, social-media handles, or exact location through the app in a way that circumvents its design;
- Create a fake profile, misrepresent your identity, age, or intentions, or use another person’s photos;
- Create a new account to evade a ban, a block, or these Terms;
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract Seren’s matching, discovery, or proximity logic — this runs on our servers by design, and remains our confidential and proprietary information;
- Scrape, harvest, or automate access to Seren, or interfere with its normal operation; or
- Use Seren for any unlawful purpose.
8. Enforcement and bans
We may warn, suspend, or permanently ban an account that violates these Terms, at our discretion and without prior notice where warranted (for example, an immediate safety risk). Because Seren doesn’t collect an email or phone number to ban by, we use device-level signals — Apple’s DeviceCheck and Google’s Play Integrity — and a liveness-face match against banned accounts at re-registration to keep a ban in effect even across a reinstall or a new device. Attempting to evade a ban is itself a violation of these Terms.
9. Account deletion
You may delete your account at any time from Settings in the app. Deletion is immediate and permanent — it removes your profile, photos, prompts, likes and passes, reports and blocks, your push notification token, and every match and its messages. There is no recovery period and no way to reactivate a deleted account.
We may suspend or terminate your account for violating these Terms, as described in Section 8.
10. Disclaimers
Seren is provided “as is” and “as available,” without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any warranty that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any match, chat, or meeting will meet your expectations. We do not warrant the accuracy of any user’s profile, photos, or statements.
11. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Seren and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any loss, injury, or dispute arising from your use of the app, your interactions with other users, or any in-person meeting arranged through it — including, without limitation, any conduct of another user.
12. Termination
You may stop using Seren, and delete your account, at any time. We may suspend or terminate your access for violating these Terms, or discontinue any part of the service, with or without notice.
13. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of the Philippines, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, except where a user’s local law (for example, Vietnam’s) mandatorily applies to that user’s use of the service.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as Seren changes. If we make a material change, we’ll update the “last updated” date above and make a reasonable effort to notify existing users in-app. Continuing to use Seren after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
